ST. CHARLES - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that a project to replace the culvert under Illinois 25 just south of Fox Glen Drive in St. Charles has been extended two weeks.

The project, which started July 23 and resulted in the closing of Illinois 25, is now anticipated to be complete the week of August 27.

Access to residences, businesses and side streets on Illinois 25 north and south of culvert still will be maintained, however, through traffic will not be permitted. The detour route directing traffic to Illinois 64 (Main Street) and Dunham/Kirk Road to access Illinois 25 also will remain in effect.

Motorists should anticipate delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. Please obey the speed limit, observe closure signs and remain alert for workers.

The culvert replacement is being added to a larger project that will build a new bridge carrying Red Gate Road over the Fox River. The $21 million project also includes widening and reconstructing Illinois 25 and Illinois 31, along with drainage, lighting and traffic signal improvements.

More information on the Red Gate Road project is available at www.redgatebridge.org.
